It opens on a hot, sunny Karachi day, with the house full of a new kind of noise. Nasira Begum is running after a tiny girl, calling “Dania!” while the little one refuses to stop. Dania is Mehrab’s daughter, named by Bi Jaan, and she looks like a living doll, with silky black hair, big almond-shaped eyes like her father’s and skin as fair as milk. From the day she first opened her eyes, Kashan has adored her.

Two-year-old Dania has already worn out her grandmother, slipping behind sofas and running across the cool marble floor on her little bare feet. Just then Kashan walks in, scoops her up with a smile and sits down on the sofa tickling her. “What’s going on? Why are you troubling my Dadi?” he asks, and Dania bursts into giggles. Nasira Begum, exhausted, laughs and tells him to feed her; she’s done for. Kashan sits Dania in her chair and feeds her spoon by spoon, and Nasira Begum watches the little girl who has brought so much life to the house.

Noor Malik opens the second season on a warm, happy note, giving readers time with familiar characters and a new generation before the next twists of the story arrive.
