It is around three in the morning when the narrator wakes up feeling that someone has grabbed his leg and is pulling him hard. Before he can understand what is happening, he is dragged off the bed and across the floor, and he cuts his hand trying to grab the edge of the bed. Half asleep from his sleeping pills, in the dim light of a zero-watt bulb, he cannot even see who or what is pulling him.

When he is dragged close to the door and sees the darkness beyond it, he feels death standing in front of him. He screams for his wife, Sasha, who is sleeping peacefully just a few feet away, but she does not wake up. His screams are so loud that the neighbours should have heard them, yet no one comes. With all his strength he braces himself against the door frame, and suddenly the grip on his foot loosens. He crawls back inside, slams the door shut, and sees that Sasha and their little daughter Hamna are still fast asleep, completely unaware. Shaking with fear, he sits against the door until he faints.

In the morning, sunlight and birdsong wake him, and he finds himself lying in his own bed under his blanket. The room is perfectly normal, and the bedsheet has not even been disturbed. Was it all a dream? But in the bathroom mirror he sees long scratch marks across his back and red finger marks around his ankle, and his right hand still hurts. “Agar khwab tha to mere jism par nishan kaise hain?” Then Sasha calls out that he has been in the bathroom for twenty minutes. Faizan Ahmed makes the everyday morning feel even scarier after such a night.

کچھ راتیں ختم ہو جاتی ہیں، مگر ان کا خوف کبھی ختم نہیں ہوتا۔
