Abhi Na Jao Chor K By F A K

About this novel

Abhi Na Jao Chor Kar (Urdu: ابھی نہ جاؤ چھوڑ کر) by F.A.K is a short, bittersweet Urdu romance about a love that returns without warning. Raza is buried in work in his new house when he opens the door to the one person he never expected to see again.

For two days Raza has done nothing but work on a project, typing fast while the coffee beside him goes cold. His friend Ahad calls and says someone wants to meet him. “Kaun milna chahta hai mujh se?” Before Raza can take it in, the doorbell rings. He walks to the door, opens it, and forgets to breathe. The same eyes he used to lose himself in, the same scarf on her head, the same restless lashes.

چار سال بعد دروازے پر وہی چہرہ، اور ایک ادھورا گانا۔

She asks whether he’s going to invite her in, and he silently steps aside. She tells him she begged Ahad for his address, looks around and says he has made a lovely home. He doesn’t look like the Raza of four years ago, she says; Ahad told her he has started his own business. Raza cuts her off: why has she come? She shouldn’t be here.

She sits down on the sofa, chin in hand, and tells him she only came to hear the song he sang at the annual dinner. If he sings it once more she’ll go. Raza sighs, walks into the open kitchen and starts making coffee, telling her she can find that song on YouTube in a thousand voices. She follows him: she has heard it in a thousand voices, she says, and none of them felt the way it did when she heard it from him.

F.A.K never says outright what went wrong four years ago, and that’s what pulls you through the novel’s 191 pages. The title, from the well-known line asking a loved one not to leave just yet, captures the mood.
