Chirya by Salman

About this novel

Chirya by Salman is a hard-hitting Urdu social story about a crime against a child and the justice that finally follows. It is written as a warning, not as entertainment. You can read it online or download the complete PDF free on Crazy Fans of Novels.

The story opens with the sound of a clock, “tik, tik, tik,” striking twelve at the start of 17 October 2018. For one man, every tick falls like a hammer, because today he is going to be hanged. Salman writes that a crime can never stay hidden forever; sooner or later it comes out and brings disgrace. Fear, despair and shame are all written on the prisoner’s face. He finally understands his mistakes, but that understanding cannot save him now, and his memories begin to pull him back into the past.

The writer then takes us back to the last night of 2017. The clock strikes twelve again, but this time there is celebration everywhere. Fireworks light up the sky, people wrapped in warm clothes fill the streets, and good people pray, “Ya Allah, yeh naya saal hamare liye aaram aur sukoon laaye.” Everyone believes the new year will bring happiness, but the writer warns that no one knows what this year will bring, and that it will become a year of grief and mourning.

In January 2018 we meet a little girl waiting outside her school for her father, who is late. She looks around anxiously, hoping to see him, and then a man from her own neighbourhood comes towards her. From here the story deals with a painful crime and its consequences. The writer handles it as a story about how such crimes destroy families, and about the justice that society owes every child.

It is a difficult read, and an important one for parents. Teach children never to go anywhere with anyone without permission, even someone they know, and always report anything suspicious to the police.
