About this novel
Mere Humjanam Mujhe Na Dhoondna by Salman is a sad, reflective Urdu novel about loss, grief and the people who cannot let go. Read it online or download the complete PDF free on Crazy Fans of Novels.
The novel begins in a graveyard in Peshawar, far from the mountains. Raindrops fall from the sky and disappear into the earth, leaving no trace. At the back of the graveyard is a grave with a plaque that reads Afgan Kishwar Khan. Salman writes that the raindrops seem to bury themselves in that soil, just as the man in the grave once lived a carefree, joyful life and was then forgotten by the world, as if he had never been here at all.
When he first left, his loved ones cried a lot. Slowly everyone moved on, until no one even mentioned him. Only his mother, his father and one very dear brother still come to his grave every day, and even they have to return to their lives, because no one can stop living for the dead. A short ghazal, credited to Taleh Glance, follows about a companion who has left, a heart that died with him and a light that has been snatched away.
Then the story moves to a young man standing at a window watching the rain, and tears roll down his face the same way. Over time, the writer says, these tears have left dark marks on his cheeks, but no one in this world understands his pain or has time to share it. Unable to bear the light, he pulls the curtain shut and lets the room sink into darkness. A knock breaks the silence: “Argan beta, bahar aa jao, dinner lag gaya hai.” From these opening pages, Mere Humjanam Mujhe Na Dhoondna feels like a story about grief, memory and finding a way to live again.
