Tere Ishq Mein by Malisha Rana

About this novel

Tere Ishq Mein (Urdu: تیرے عشق میں) by Malisha Rana is a dramatic Urdu romance that opens at a nikah the bride never wanted. Zainia is asked whether she accepts Malik Auzan as her husband, with a haq mehr of fifty lakh rupees, and her answer changes everything.

She had never imagined she would be married to the man she hates more than anyone in the world. But she has no choice. If she refuses, he will kill her mother and sister, and she knows he means it, because he is a ghunda. So she puts her own happiness aside, thinks only of her family, and says “Ji, qabool hai.” With those words, her life is handed over to him.

جس سے سب سے زیادہ نفرت تھی، اسی کے نام لکھ دی گئی زندگی۔

Then the story goes back to show how two such different worlds collided. Auzan takes a call from his man Atif, who is fuming because someone called Javed won’t pay up and wants to fight. “Come quickly or I’ll shoot him,” Atif threatens. Auzan only laughs, because he knows Atif is all talk, and goes off to get ready, not knowing that this is the day his life will change. Across town, Zainia, called Zaini at home, steps out of university to find her father Shabbir sahib waiting on his motorcycle again. She scolds him lovingly for wasting his lunch break on her when she can take the bus, and he just smiles. It’s a simple, loving home, and the contrast with Auzan’s world couldn’t be sharper.

Malisha Rana builds the story on that contrast: a respectable middle-class girl and a powerful, dangerous man, joined by force. The title, “in your love”, leaves the reader asking whether love can grow out of something that started this way.
