Humein Tum Se Piyar Kitna By Malisha Rana

About this novel

Humein Tum Se Pyar Kitna (Urdu: ہمیں تم سے پیار کتنا) by Malisha Rana is a light Urdu cousin romance about Sunny and Pippi, who fight like cats and dogs. Their war begins with a disaster involving a pet cat and Sunny’s bed.

The novel opens with a shout that shakes the walls of the mansion: “Pippiii!” Mumtaz Begum rushes into Sunny’s room. “What happened, Sunny? Why are you screaming?” Sunny tells her to ask her darling Pippi. Pippi, who has just walked in, demands to know what she did that he’s yelling her name like that. Mumtaz Begum scolds Sunny for speaking about his elder cousin like that, and Pippi makes a face at him.

Sunny points at his bed, where Pasha – Pippi’s pet cat – has done his business on the sheet. “This is what your pet rat did!” Mumtaz Begum looks at the wet bedsheet, trying hard not to laugh, while Pippi protests indignantly: what did she do? It’s not her fault – Pasha did it, so tell Pasha! Sunny insists she put the cat up to it. Mumtaz Begum tells Sunny to let it go – the poor cat doesn’t understand any of this. Pippi plays the innocent victim, explaining that she uses her own room’s bathroom – how could she know Pasha would mistake Sunny’s room for his?

ایک پالتو بلی، گیلی بیڈ شیٹ، اور کزنز کی نہ ختم ہونے والی لڑائی۔

Sunny is furious – “Why would Pasha understand our language?” – and Pippi gives him one of her trademark “blackmail” looks, the kind she always gives when she wants to win. Mumtaz Begum ends the matter by telling Sunny to pull off the sheet; it’ll be washed and she’ll bring him a new one. Pippi winks at Sunny and runs off after Mumtaz Begum, knowing the round is hers – though the writer warns that Sunny is planning his revenge.

Malisha Rana fills this story with cousin nok-jhok and household comedy, and the title – “how much I love you” – promises that all this fighting hides real feelings.
