Uss Ka Hi Bana (Urdu: اس کا ہی بنا) by Malisha Rana is an Urdu suspense romance that begins with a frightening and mysterious kidnapping. A young woman wakes up tied to a chair in a pitch-dark room, with no idea who has taken her or why.

She shouts until her voice gives out. Whoever kidnapped her can name his price and let her go, she says; doesn’t he know who she is? There is no answer, and the place is so silent that it seems no living soul is anywhere near. Then a calm, mysterious voice speaks right beside her. A man has been sitting in the room the whole time, listening. She can’t see him in the dark, only hear his footsteps as he moves behind her. When she asks what he wants, his answer is simple: her. He calls himself her obsessed aashiq, says he can’t live without her, and tells her that tonight the two of them are leaving for the USA forever.

Alone and at the mercy of a stranger, she can hardly breathe, wondering what he plans to do next. Malisha Rana then cuts to a lighter scene. A young couple, Sonia and Aaban, are arguing about marriage. Aaban is tired of waiting, but Sonia won’t hear of it while her Aapi is still unmarried at home. What would people say about her? She asks him to be patient for a while longer.

The opening sets up a dramatic mix of danger, obsession and family pressure, and it leaves you wanting to know who this mysterious kidnapper is and how these stories connect. As with many of Malisha Rana’s novels, emotions run high and the drama is never far away.
