Wajha Tum Ho By Malisha Rana

About this novel

Wajah Tum Ho (Urdu: وجہ تم ہو) by Malisha Rana is a complete Urdu university romance about Hoor, a pampered, sharp-tongued only daughter. Ahmad is a loyal, hot-headed young man who will do anything for his friends, and their first meeting is explosive.

The novel opens at breakfast. “Hoor, eat slowly – what’s the hurry?” her mother Saba Begum scolds. “Mama, you don’t know how strict Sir Hafeez is – I’ve got his lecture first!” Hoor rushes out, telling her father to come quickly, while her mother tells her at least to let him finish breakfast. Muzammil Sahib smiles, gets up and drives her off as she complains that Sir Hafeez is a total “jallad”.

The writer explains that Muzammil Sahib and Saba Begum had a daughter after many years of marriage, a girl with lovely blue eyes, rosy cheeks and fair skin, whom they named Hoor. Because she is their only child, they never refused her anything, and that has made her a little spoiled and outspoken. Still, the writer notes, love is one thing and good upbringing another – parents should be careful not to do their children harm.

Meanwhile, Ahmad receives a call from his friend Osama. A certain lecturer has been picking on their friend Usman for no reason, and today he accused Usman of theft and had him thrown out of the university – Usman’s whole future is at stake. Ahmad, smoking a cigarette and leaning back in bed, promises to come at once. Ahmad Ijaz is the younger son of Rana Ijaz; his elder sister Fiza is married but lives with her husband and children in the same house. Tall, smart and handsome, Ahmad would give his life for family and friends, and people often take advantage of that loyalty.

At university, as Hoor and her friend Sila rush to Sir Hafeez’s class, they hear shouting. Hoor throws open the door – and sees Ahmad holding Sir Hafeez by the collar. Without a second thought, she pushes him away hard.

Malisha Rana opens with fireworks, and the title – “you are the reason” – promises a love that grows out of conflict.
