About this novel
Hidayat Ka Wasila (Urdu: ہدایت کا وسیلہ) by Pakeeza Tayyab is a short, gentle Urdu story about friendship and good neighbours. It shows how small acts of kindness can become a means of guidance, and it opens on a crisp early-November morning.
Abdul Jabbar sahib has prayed Fajr at the mosque, recited the Quran, and stepped into the nearby park for a walk once the sun is up. Young men are exercising, the grass is fresh and green, and as he walks he stops by a bench where his friend Mark is sitting. “Not walking today?” he asks. Mark doesn’t seem himself, so Abdul Jabbar sahib does a round and comes back to find him still rubbing his temples with worry.
ایک چھوٹی سی مدد بھی کسی کے لیے ہدایت کا وسیلہ بن سکتی ہے۔
It turns out Mark is worried about his daughter Aisha. She is determined to become a doctor but can’t find a good tutor. Her college professors live far away, and he isn’t comfortable sending her out to a tutor or trusting someone at home, and she has looked down lately. Abdul Jabbar sahib has an answer at once. His own younger son is studying medical and preparing for the entry test after his FSc, and the academy where he studies has a very reliable teacher, Usman. He’ll talk to Usman today; in the evening Mark should bring Aisha to the academy and meet him. Mark says “God bless” from his heart, and the two friends head home together as the sun rises.
Pakeeza Tayyab writes simply and warmly about good neighbours, honest help and the way Allah opens doors through people. The title suggests this helping hand will lead somewhere deeper.
