Khan Zada (Urdu: خان زادہ) by Nimra Anwar is a short Urdu romance about a self-made rich man who can’t forget one girl. Asad Khan Afridi has everything money can buy, yet he still can’t stop thinking about the girl from his past, and the story opens with a dream.

Asad is standing by a window when someone touches his shoulder. He turns, sees Haniya, and feels a deep sense of peace. “Are you all right? Have you come to me?” he asks. She just smiles, and then he wakes up. His driver opens the car door, and Asad steps out, lost in thought. These days his mind is always troubled; he owns everything, yet he is never at peace.

Seven years of hard work have brought him here. Once he didn’t even have a home; now he is rich enough to buy thousands of houses. But there is no real happiness in his life. He can buy anything except the one thing he truly loves. By pride and nature he is a Khan, and by courage an Afridi, as he likes to say. Sitting in his office, he remembers how it all began.

The story goes back to a message from a girl he didn’t know. She asked politely how he was, said her name was Maryam, and told him she needed his help. Curious, he agreed, and she sent him a link: she had started a YouTube channel and wanted subscribers. He was amazed at her nerve, sending a Khan a link to a singing channel, and said goodbye on the spot. As it turns out, “Maryam” wasn’t her real name. She was Haniya, and she was asking people for subscribers.

Nimra Anwar keeps it short and light, a love story that starts with an online message and grows into an obsession. The title tells you the hero’s pride is part of the story.
