About this novel
Tera Ishq Meri Jannat (Urdu: تیرا عشق میری جنت) by Anosha Anshoo Khan is a long, complete Urdu family romance about two households. One family is waiting for its eldest son to come home, and the other is built around a single, much-loved daughter.
The novel begins with Asifa Begum trying to wake her younger son Zayan. His brother is coming back in just a few days, she says, and there is so much to prepare that she is already tense. Zayan, who is in no mood to get up, teases her: Mama, there is still time before Bhai arrives, why are you so worried? You never worry like this for me. Asifa Begum smiles and admits that Shayan is the light of her life. After their father died, Shayan never let his mother and brother feel his absence; he became the father figure of the house. Remembering this, her eyes fill with tears, and Zayan hugs her and agrees that people are lucky to have a brother like Shayan – he would give his life for him.
Asifa Begum has two sons. Shayan, the elder, became his family’s only support after his father’s death, a responsible and very handsome man who has taken the business forward with real skill. Zayan is the youngest and the lightest-hearted, the pampered one, and Shayan has never refused him anything.
ایک گھر بیٹے کا منتظر، دوسرا اپنی اکلوتی پری پر نثار۔
Then the story moves to Pari, the only child of Taimoor Sahib and Kulsoom Begum. Complications at the time of her birth meant Kulsoom Begum could never become a mother again, so their whole world revolves around Pari. Her university is now complete, and when her father asks what she plans next, she nervously explains that she and her friend want to do a course while waiting for admission test results, that a professor has invited the whole class to lunch, and that she would like to take up a job – if he allows it.
Anosha Anshoo Khan writes in a simple, affectionate style full of ghar ki baatein, mother-son love and a father’s protectiveness, and it’s easy to guess that these two families will soon be connected. A good pick for readers who enjoy gentle, family-centred romance.
