Muntazir E Saza By Munaza Mirza

About this novel

Muntazir E Saza (Urdu: منتظرِ سزا) by Munaza Mirza is a long, complete Urdu novel about a fearless TV reporter named Daima. She chases a gang that kidnaps and smuggles young girls, and the story becomes far more dangerous than she expected.

The novel opens quietly. Daima sits alone on a beach at night, trying to hold the white sand in her fist and watching moonlight shimmer on the water. With her eyes closed she is enjoying the cool breeze and a boy playing guitar somewhere behind her, when her phone beeps and breaks the spell. Annoyed, she sees the caller’s name and still answers.

It’s her colleague Sunny, and he wants to know where she has disappeared to. Daima is the most popular reporter at CTV News; her show on girls smuggling has caused a huge stir and its ratings are the highest on the channel. Sunny brings news from Zubair: the team has tracked down the gang’s hideout in the northern areas. Daima brushes off the compliments – she only wants to hear about the case.

سچ کی تلاش میں نکلی ایک لڑکی، اور اس کے سامنے ایک خطرناک گینگ۔

The details are chilling. People talk about a mysterious palace where hundreds of girls are brought every month, and from there many of them are sold onward. Girls are being taken not only from Pakistan but from countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka too, and the gang is big and powerful. Daima clenches her fists in anger. She knows that a story on air isn’t enough; without a proper recording and solid saboot, nobody will believe them and the police won’t act. Going after that proof means putting their own lives in danger.

Munaza Mirza mixes investigative thriller with drama, giving the story a brave, determined heroine and a serious social issue at its centre. Readers should know that the novel deals with human trafficking and the danger faced by its victims. If you like Urdu novels with a strong female lead, suspense and a purpose behind the plot, this one is worth starting.
