About this novel
Meri Dastan E Muhabbat (Urdu: میری داستانِ محبت) by Mehak Roshan is a complete Urdu romance about a spirited, much-loved orphan girl. It begins with her talking her way onto a weekend trip with her friends, a trip that will change her life.
The novel opens with a familiar plea: “Phuppo jani, please! Allow kar dein na!” Pareeshay and her friends have planned a trip for the weekend, but her Phuppo is not giving permission under any circumstances. So Pareeshay plays her last card – if my Mama and Baba were alive, would they stop me? She knows that once she says this, nobody can refuse her, and Phuppo is left speechless.
Pari lost her parents on the very day she came into the world. She never knew how much a mother and father love their child, but she knows for certain that no one in the world could love her more than her Phuppo does. Pareeshay often uses this kind of emotional blackmail to get her way, and every time it works, because Phuppo feels that whatever Pari might be missing, she must make up for it. Finally Phuppo gives in and lets her go with her friends, and Pareeshay is overjoyed, calling her Phuppo her jaan.
ماں باپ کی کمی، پھپھو کا بے پناہ پیار، اور دوستوں کے ساتھ ایک سفر۔
Then the friends start arguing about the destination. Someone suggests going to Kalash – Zohaib’s idea – and the group bickers about whether anyone even knows what Kalash is or has only picked up the name somewhere. Kashf and Fariha have left the final decision to Pari, and she announces it with full drama: “Hum Chitral ja rahe hain!” What’s in Chitral? they ask. “Mela!” she answers, leaving them both holding their heads.
Mehak Roshan keeps the opening fresh and chatty, full of dosti, nok-jhok and the warmth of a girl raised with love by her aunt. The title – “my love story” – promises that this trip to the north may turn out to be much more than a holiday. It’s a light, easy start for readers who enjoy cheerful heroines and travel romance.
