About this novel

Mere Zakhmon Ki Dawa (Urdu: میرے زخموں کی دوا) by Hashmi Hashmi is a complete Urdu romance about Iman, who loses her husband on their wedding night. Light slowly returns to her life through family, friendship and a new classmate.

The story begins with Iman sitting as a bride in the room of her friend – and husband – Ali. She never imagined so much could happen in one life. She was her parents’ only daughter until an accident changed everything. Ali was a police officer who lived with his Nani, his Mumani, her daughter Gudiya and her son Shah; his own parents had passed away. Iman waits for him all night, but night turns into morning and he never comes. At Fajr she hears voices outside, steps out, and can’t believe her eyes: Ali, her friend, her mehram, her husband, is no longer in this world. She sinks down beside him, repeating his name and reminding him of his promise to stay with her for life.

Six months later, life has quietly continued. Within that time Iman has also lost her mother and father, and she now lives permanently in Ali’s home, kept going only by the love of his Nano and family. She comes down for breakfast, greets Nani, and is gently scolded for driving to university alone again – though she insists Gudiya was with her. Nani’s daily lecture follows, Iman listens with one ear and lets it out the other, and the two girls set off laughing.

شادی کی رات کا صدمہ، نانی کا پیار، اور یونیورسٹی میں ایک نئی شروعات۔

At university, a new student introduces himself: “Hello, my name is Hamza – where’s the BS class?” Iman greets him with salaam, tells him she’s his classmate and walks him to class, where Gudiya waves them over. When Hamza says “hello” to Gudiya, Iman reminds him that he should say salaam, and he turns red with embarrassment. The girls can’t stop smiling, and when their laughter disturbs the lecture, the professor sends both of them out.

Hashmi Hashmi mixes deep grief with light, everyday moments, and the title – “the cure for my wounds” – promises healing after heartbreak.
