About this afsana

Maut Ka Jazeera (Urdu: موت کا جزیرہ) by Isha Gill is a short Urdu adventure-horror afsana about friends who holiday on a mysterious island. People say no one ever returns from that island, and the title means the island of death.

The story opens with Rida walking in on her friends: “Hello, friends! What’s going on? Are you making some secret plan without me?” Azaan protests – how could they plan anything without her and risk her wrath? Tooba explains they were only waiting for her, because they haven’t been anywhere together in a long time and want to plan a trip this holiday. Mohid agrees: somewhere special. “Then I’ll tell you where we’re going,” Rida announces. “We’re all going to an island.” Everyone looks at her curiously. “Which island?” “The Island of Death.”

Rida explains with dramatic flair: it’s an island from which nobody who goes there ever returns – anyone who sets foot on it has to sacrifice their life. She laughs in a spooky voice to scare everyone. Azaan says he’s heard of it too; the friends admit it’s only a rumour that no one comes back, which is why people are afraid to go. “Who knows, maybe it’s all nonsense,” Rida says carelessly. Mohid jokes that brave players show their strength in danger, and they agree: after their final class, they’ll pack and go by boat.

دوستوں کی چھٹیاں، ایک کشتی، اور وہ جزیرہ جہاں سے کوئی واپس نہیں آتا۔

On the day of the trip, Tooba is still asleep when Rida’s car horn blares outside, and she’s teased all the way to the coast. There, an elderly boatman they greet as Chacha welcomes them aboard his boat. When Tooba asks what he knows about the island, he warns them gravely: it’s a place where even birds fear to fly; the island takes the life of anyone who goes there, and the people who live there are said to welcome visitors with their blood. In all these years, no one who went there has ever come back.

Isha Gill builds suspense quickly, mixing friendship and dares with a creepy legend. A quick read for fans of short Urdu horror and adventure stories.
