About this novel

Kar Meri Chahat Qubool (Urdu: کر میری چاہت قبول) by Isha Gill is a long Urdu romance that opens on a hot, rainy afternoon at a university gate. Mashal is waiting for her ride, and the teasing Jazib turns up instead.

The novel begins with Mashal standing at the university gate, waiting for Kareem Baba. Every few minutes she wipes the sweat from her forehead with a tissue. Where has he gone? The heat is unbearable, and she’s sure the car must have broken down again – he’ll come with his usual excuse, “Bibi ji, the car broke down.” Then the sky changes: dark clouds hide the sun, and after the long game of sun and shade, the rain finally wins. A drop falls on Mashal’s hand, and she smiles – she never knew her prayer would be accepted so quickly! She runs for the shade near the gate, worried that if Kareem Baba doesn’t come, she’ll be stuck at the university all night, since she has never travelled by bus or rickshaw.

Then a black car stops at the gate. “Arre, this is Jazib’s car!” she exclaims happily. Jazib waves her in without even rolling down the window. Mashal jumps in, scolding him for keeping her waiting in the heat – and asking where Kareem Baba is. Jazib jokes that he’ll only answer once she stops her non-stop radio, then explains: Kareem Baba had to go to the village to take someone to see Dadu, so Jazib has come to pick her up instead.

یونیورسٹی کے گیٹ پر بارش، اور شرارتی کزن جاذب کی کالی گاڑی۔

Their easy banter shows a close bond – he teases her about how a city girl like her would ever adjust to village life, and she reminds him she’s everyone’s favourite whenever she visits Dadu. At home, the story shifts to Saimi, being scolded by her mother Farhat Begum for burying herself in a digest instead of opening the door in the pouring rain.

Isha Gill writes with humour and warmth, and the title – “accept my love” – promises a romance full of confessions.
