Dhulan by Awais Chohan

About this novel

Dulhan by Awais Chohan is an Urdu horror novel that begins with a happy university topper and a planned proposal. Then the story turns dark, and the khaufnak events that follow give the title, the bride, a frightening meaning.

Robi is overjoyed, because her MBA results are out and she has taken a distinction position across the whole university. One evening she walks into the house with a sad, gloomy face, and when her grandmother asks why, she says glumly that all her friends passed with good marks. Her grandmother immediately calls Robi’s father, Iftikhar, and her mother, Khursheed, to break the “bad news.” Just as her father is about to scold her, Robi puts her result card on the table, and he cries out with happiness. She has come first in the whole university, he tells the family, and made everyone proud.

Awais Chohan introduces the family of six: Robi, her brother Faizan, her father Abu Iftikhar, her mother Khursheed and her grandmother Sakina Begum, who loves her the most. Robi is smart and good at her studies, but she is also very stubborn and always gets her way. She has never learned to lose.

The next morning she rushes off early to university. She has invited her friends to a party to celebrate her position and needs to arrange everything. Her mother is worried to see her leave so early, but Robi is in a hurry. Her friends gather at the café on time, but Robi is anxiously waiting for one special person. Today is the most important day of her life, because she plans to propose marriage to Sahil.

After half an hour, Sahil finally walks into the cafeteria. Robi is so happy that she hurries towards him, slips and falls hard on the floor. From this cheerful, ordinary start, the title Dulhan and the horror label promise that something frightening lies ahead.

کبھی کبھی سب سے خوشی کا دن ہی ایک ڈراؤنی کہانی کی شروعات بن جاتا ہے۔
