About this novel

Tum Sy Tum Tak (Urdu: تم سے تم تک) by Kainat Aijaz is a long, complete Urdu romance about Pakeeza and Paras and their fiery nok-jhok. It opens with a playful, heated exchange between the two, whose love is full of teasing and temper from the very first page.

The novel begins with a couplet about junoon and then a lively scene. Pakeeza, in a red frock that sweeps the floor and a black dupatta hanging carelessly around her neck, is coming down the stairs, searching for someone with her beautiful eyes – when she collides with the very person she was looking for. “I was looking for you. Where were you?” she asks. Paras, whose face had been sad a moment earlier, suddenly lights up. “Why were you looking for me?” he whispers, leaning close, and Pakeeza’s heart skips a beat.

She tells him he’s a very rude, badtameez man. He laughs that he’s never actually been badtameez with her, but today he feels like it, and Pakeeza, nervous and flustered, pushes him back and asks what he thinks he’s doing. “Just a little pyaar, if you allow it,” he replies with a wink. She tells him to disappear – she doesn’t want to talk to him – and starts climbing the stairs, but he blocks her way and apologises. “Pakar ke kaan sorry bolo,” she demands, and he cheekily holds her ears instead and says sorry, earning an angry glare.

ایک سرخ فراک، کچھ شوخ باتیں، اور بالوں پر ہونے والی ایک لڑائی۔

He’ll forgive her on one condition, he says – what was it she wanted? Pakeeza announces that she wants him to take her to the parlour to get her hair cut, because Aapi said it would look nice. Paras’s mood flips instantly. Has she lost her mind, cutting her hair on someone else’s say-so? He reminds her how much he loves her long golden hair, and warns her not to touch it. Pakeeza, a little scared, promises she won’t. Then his tone softens again, telling her how beautiful her hair is and how much he likes it.

Kainat Aijaz writes this opening with filmy dialogue and quick mood swings, setting up a passionate, possessive hero and a spirited heroine. If you enjoy intense romances full of drama and banter, this long novel offers plenty.
