Roshan Mustakbil By Sheriyar Qureshi

About this novel

Roshan Mustaqbil (Urdu: روشن مستقبل) by Sheriyar Qureshi is a complete Urdu novel about Sheri, a decent young man turned street fighter. Then Zainab, a proud rich girl, walks into his fight club and turns his world upside down.

The novel opens with a blunt introduction: “This is Sheriyar Qureshi – a man ruined by the times.” Once, people held up his decency as an example, but circumstances changed him, and now his bad name has become a proverb. A cigarette or a glass is often in his hand. Nobody knows where he lives, and the hardships of his life have made him as hard as iron. Love isn’t a word in his dictionary; fighting is his passion, and the only thing he truly cares about is the fight club he joined years ago, where his skill has made him a winner. He has no mother or father – a man who once dreamed of becoming a doctor now trains fighters for a living.

One evening, after the club has closed, a jeep pulls up, and out steps a girl in an abaya. “Is this where they teach fighting?” she asks. Sheri answers carelessly, and when she pushes for proper information, he loses his temper: he doesn’t like girls who throw attitude, and he hasn’t time for fancy airs. What he doesn’t know is that she is Zainab Shah, the only daughter of one of the city’s richest men – and the new owner of the very club where he works. She tells him she has come to learn fighting, and that from tomorrow he is going to teach her.

ایک بگڑا ہوا فائٹر، ایک ضدی امیرزادی، اور ایک نیا سفر۔

Their argument has barely started when another girl in black jeans and a black cap appears at the club, and suddenly it’s Sheri who is lost in someone’s beauty – something he has never let happen before – while Zainab watches with growing irritation and the sparks start flying in more than one direction.

Sheriyar Qureshi writes in a raw, fast style about pride, broken dreams and second chances. The title – “a bright future” – promises that even a man who has lost his way can find light again.
