Mohabbat Kay Dagh by Fawad Ali

About this novel

Mohabbat Kay Dagh (Urdu: محبت کے داغ) by Fawad Ali is a short, emotional Urdu romance about Ali and Uniya, the girl he loves. Uniya dreams of a perfect love but can’t see the one in front of her, and the title means the scars of love.

It opens at college. Uniya’s friend Mehwish is pleading Ali’s case: he doesn’t waste time like other boys, he never bothers girls, and he looks only at Uniya. He truly likes her, so why can’t she see how much he loves her? Uniya stands up angrily. If he likes her so much, she says, he should send a proposal and marry her properly; she doesn’t want the kind of “love” boys show these days. Then she laughs, says she’s hungry, and drags Mehwish off to the canteen.

جو سامنے ہو اس کی محبت نظر نہیں آتی، اور خوابوں میں کوئی اور بستا ہے۔

The writer tells us more about both of them. Uniya is a little dreamy and lives in her own world. She is her father’s only daughter and the darling of her two brothers, and she wants a man who will love her so much that the world will be amazed. Ali, meanwhile, studies while also running his father’s shop with great care. He is serious and responsible and wants to become the support of his parents and younger sister. He loves Uniya madly, yet to her it all seems like a joke. After a lot of thought, Ali opens his heart to Mehwish: he wants Uniya as his respected wife. Mehwish warns him that Uniya will never agree, but Ali believes in his love and decides to talk to her one last time.

Fawad Ali keeps it simple and heartfelt, and the title warns that this sincere love may leave lasting marks.
