Mera ishq namukamal by nimra anwar

About this novel

Mera Ishq Namukamal (Urdu: میرا عشق نامکمل) by Nimra Anwar is a short romantic Urdu novel about a girl who falls for a man from her dream. Nirman sees the same man in real life and decides he must be her destiny, even though her family warns her he isn’t who she thinks.

It opens with Nirman awake all night, wandering on the roof. She has dreamed of a man in a cotton suit and a cap, looking at her, though she couldn’t see his face. Who is he? The next day, after school, she goes with her mamani to visit her nani, and there she meets Saadia aunty, a hafiza of the Quran who interprets dreams. The aunt tells her that, according to the dream, this man will come into her life, and that if she recites the three Quls regularly, any trouble will pass. Nirman says “OK, aunty” and drops the subject, quietly thinking it’s impossible. Like most things, she laughs it off.

ایک خواب، ایک چہرہ — اور ایک ادھوری محبت کی شروعات۔

Then, one day in the street, her little brother wants to go to the shop across the road, and when she turns she freezes. A man is standing there, dressed exactly as in her dream. She runs inside in fright, and that night the dream returns, and this time she sees his face. It’s the same man. His name is Shehzad, he lives in the neighbourhood, and soon Nirman is watching him every day, sure she can’t live without him. Her elder sister warns her again and again to stay away, because he isn’t a good man, but Nirman won’t listen. For now her love is only looking from a distance; she has no way to reach him, though a friend keeps telling her to make a Facebook account.

Nimra Anwar writes about a young girl’s first, one-sided crush, and the title, “my incomplete love”, hints at how it may end.
