Yariya Dil Dariya by Ayesha Rohi

About this novel

Yariyan Dil Dariyan (Urdu: یاریاں دل داریاں) by Ayesha Rohi is a long romantic Urdu novel built on love, misunderstanding and a lot of stubbornness on both sides. It opens on a still, dark night, with a young woman sleeping restlessly in the most beautiful room of a grand house.

The writer lingers over the room: paintings on every wall, a chandelier that fills it with coloured light, wind chimes by the windows and flowerpots lining the balcony. Anyone who saw it would admire the taste of the person who lives there. The girl, with long hair and an innocent, striking face, wakes suddenly, glances at the clock, which shows ten at night, and goes out to the balcony. The night is silent. Uneasy, she checks that every window and door is locked, then lies down again and finally falls asleep.

تم سمجھتی ہو مجھے تم سے نفرت ہے؟ یہ صرف ایک غلط فہمی تھی۔

But someone else is awake. A tall young man with light eyes, whom the writer describes as the most handsome of all the boys in the house, has been waiting for this moment. He sits beside her bed, calls her his “jungli billi” with a smile, and quietly pours out what he has never said to her face. She thinks he hates her, he says, but he knows she loves him too. Everything between them came from one misunderstanding, and one day he will tell her the truth, if only she would let him speak.

Ayesha Rohi sets up a tangled love story inside a large family, full of secrets, hurt pride and feelings neither side will admit. With more than a thousand pages, there’s plenty of room for misunderstandings to grow before they are cleared.
