About this novel
Mujhe Tumse Mohabbat Hai by Meesha Haider is a colourful Urdu wedding-season romance about cousins and old feelings. Its proud hero refuses to admit that he has noticed someone, and the wedding festivities keep throwing them together.
The novel opens on a mehndi night. Fairy lights glitter everywhere, music drifts out from inside, and the rasmein have already begun. Wilaye Haider is welcoming guests with his cousin Ali Dawood, wearing a black kurta shalwar with a pink dupatta draped over his shoulders. The wedding is his sister’s, but his eyes keep searching the crowd for someone who may or may not come. Ali knows his heart, and knows that Wilaye has been waiting for years.
A black Land Cruiser pulls up, and out steps a confident, proud girl in a black lehenga with golden embroidery, open hair and golden heels. “Mala Hassan, Wilaye, tumhari Mala,” Ali whispers. Watching her, Wilaye remembers her old words: “Wilaye, Allah kare tumhein kabhi kisi se mohabbat ho aur tum woh mohabbat kabhi na milay.” He feels she has changed a lot, and she laughs it off when a cousin says the same.
Then the baraat dhol starts, and a sweet, innocent girl in a green dress with a plate of flowers in her hands bumps into Wilaye. He snaps at her, “Aap andhi hain?”, and she runs off almost in tears. Later we learn she is another Mala, the first cousin of the bride, and that she now dislikes him. In the evening, as Ali and his friend Safeer go through the mehndi photos, they tease Wilaye about “phoolon wali” Mala. He insists, “Nothing, bro.” Such a silly girl could never be Wilaye Haider’s girlfriend, he says, but both his friends can see that his heart is saying something else.
دل جس کو نظر انداز کرنے کی کوشش کرے، اکثر وہی دل میں بس جاتا ہے۔
