Kathan Rastoon Ky Musafir by Ayesha Imtiaz Farheen

About this novel

Kathin Raston Ke Musafir by Ayesha Imtiaz Farheen is an intense Urdu novel about a woman’s suffering and her fight for justice. She is forced to travel hard roads, as the title, travellers on difficult paths, suggests.

The novel opens with a heartfelt poem about a heart burnt by grief, tears that sometimes stop on the eyelashes and sometimes flow like a river, and a life that has crushed every wish. Then we are thrown straight into a confrontation. A powerful, proud man, Zarrar Khan, tells Ameeza that he wants to marry her. She laughs in his face. Being a tawaif would be better than being the wife of a man like him, she says. She calls out men who treat women as playthings and then insult them, and reminds him that his money, fame and pride mean nothing now.

She reminds him that Allah broke the pride of Firaun in a single moment and drowned him in the sea, and says the same will happen to him. The man who once crushed people like ants is now begging an ordinary girl for forgiveness, and Ameeza only laughs. Where was his fear, she asks, when he took away her unborn child? She does not want him to die easily. She wants him to live and suffer.

Suddenly Ameeza wakes up sweating. It was a dream, but her eyes are burning with a hunger for revenge. The Fajr azaan rings out, and she gets up to pray and to ask her Rab for justice, not knowing her real trial has not even begun. Her father, Hafiz Sadiq Jameel, notices that his only daughter, who once bloomed like a rose, now looks completely withered. He gently suggests they leave this village. Ameeza refuses. Her father taught her not to run from an enemy’s cruelty, she says, and she wants to take her revenge and see that oppressor suffer. Ayesha Imtiaz Farheen writes a gripping story about strength, faith and justice.

ظالم کتنا ہی طاقتور کیوں نہ ہو، رب کا انصاف ایک دن ضرور آتا ہے۔
