Ishq Be Mool Episode 2 (Urdu: عشق بے مول) by Zunaira Anjum continues the short, emotional Urdu romance of Aini, Rabab and Benish. This chapter, titled Faisla, a decision, moves from a hospital corridor to a wedding night.

The episode opens with Benish and Rabab rushing in together and asking, “Aini, Dadu… theek hain na?” Aini hadn’t expected them to arrive so soon. Her eyes, which had only just stopped crying, fill up again, and Rabab hugs her. Khalida Aunty gently scolds her for crying and tells her to thank Allah, who has spared her grandfather’s life; being ungrateful is not right. Aini whispers “Allah ka shukar hai,” and admits that if anything had happened to Dadu she would never have forgiven herself. They haven’t been allowed to see him yet, and all three girls look toward the room where he is being kept.

Then the scene changes completely, opening with a few lines of sad poetry about a companion who changed paths. A bride sits in a room she barely remembers being brought to after the rukhsati. Everything in it is expensive, yet it doesn’t feel like a room decorated for a wedding night. On the wall hangs a large portrait of a man in a black three-piece suit, looking like a prince – and the picture takes her straight back to their first meeting.

In that memory, Rabab is walking along when a stranger calls out, “Arre Rabab, ruko, meri baat to suno!” He is in a white T-shirt and black jeans, with green eyes and a smile that shows a dimple, and he says he has finally found her. Rabab is furious that a stranger knows her name and calls her “dear”, and demands to know who he is. He only laughs and tries to calm her down, while people around them stare.

Zunaira Anjum builds this episode on family love, unexpected marriage and a hero whose easy confidence clearly gets under the heroine’s skin. If you’ve read the first episode, this one deepens the drama; it’s a short, quick read.
