About this novel
Ghalat Fehmiyan (Urdu: غلط فہمیاں) by Hoorain is a complete Urdu romance that moves between a cold man in London and a family in Pakistan. He has booked a flight home to settle a score, while the family prepares to receive a rishta for their shy daughter Kashish.
The novel opens in London. A bedroom is wrapped in silence until an alarm breaks it; a man stirs, switches it off, and a servant named Nasir brings in a glass of juice. “Has the ticket been booked?” he asks. “Yes, sir,” Nasir answers nervously – nobody ever knows what will make his boss angry. The flight is at five that evening. Left alone, the man sinks into thought and silently promises someone that he will be with them very soon: “You don’t yet know what I do to people who betray me – just wait.” Then he heads off to get ready; there are important things to settle before he leaves.
In Pakistan, the family is gathered around the breakfast table while Maryam Begum serves everyone. Murtaza Ahmad announces that some people are coming that evening to see Kashish, so everyone should prepare. Alina and Hamza exchange meaningful looks, and Kashish lowers her head shyly. Maryam Begum asks who they are; Murtaza explains it’s the son of his business partner, a sensible, well-mannered young man who has finished his studies and will soon join the office. Watching Kashish, Maryam Begum finds herself missing her other daughter, who has recently drifted away from them.
لندن میں بک ہوئی ایک ٹکٹ، اور پاکستان میں ایک رشتے کی تیاری۔
The writer then explains the family tree. Ahmad Ali, an only child, married his cousin Maliha, and they had two sons, Murtaza and Irtaza, who loved each other dearly. Murtaza’s twin daughters, Zarish and Kashish, look exactly alike – the only difference is a tiny mole under Kashish’s lip – but their natures are very different: Kashish is gentle and shy, while Zarish is stubborn and headstrong. Irtaza’s children, Hamza and Alina, are both lively and fun-loving, and after Irtaza passed away in an accident when they were small, Murtaza and Maryam raised them as their own.
Hoorain sets up identical twins, a missing sister and a vengeful stranger – the title promises plenty of misunderstandings before the truth comes out.
