About this novel

The Night Stalkers by Bisma Khan is an Urdu action thriller that opens with a hostage scene in an abandoned factory. Two gunmen hold Saad Hamdani and his father captive and demand a chip that the old man refuses to hand over.

Saad is tied to a pillar, his father Hamdani Sahib to a chair in front of him, and one of the men has a gun pointed at the old man’s head. Saad screams that he’ll give them whatever they want if they’ll just leave his father alone. One of the gunmen swings the gun towards Saad instead. Hamdani Sahib begs them to leave the boy out of it: he’s innocent, they should deal with him. All they want is the chip. He tells them he doesn’t have it.

ایک چپ، ایک ویران فیکٹری، اور ایک بیٹا جس کے سامنے اس کا باپ گولی کا نشانہ بنا۔

Then police sirens sound outside. The factory is the kind of ruin that gets raided often. The two men panic. If they leave the old man alive, the boss will kill them, so a shot rings out before they run for the back. When Saad comes to his senses, he sees his father lying in his own blood.

Somehow he tears his hands free and runs to him. Hamdani Sahib is still breathing; the bullet has hit him in the chest. Saad cradles his father’s head in his lap, begging him not to leave him, and his father whispers that he should get him out of there. Saad lifts him in his arms and carries him towards the back of the factory.

That’s the start of a 434-page novel that’s more thriller than romance, about a son, a missing chip and the people hunting for it in the dark.
