About this novel
Zah Tasara Mina Kawam by Hayat Khan is a complete Urdu army thriller-romance that opens with a bomb alert. A secret file has been stolen and Major Haider Afaan’s team races against time, and the Pashto title means I love you.
The novel begins on a jogging track. Major Haider Afaan is running fast when his phone rings through his Bluetooth. “Sir, we’ve got information about a bomb on Mall Road. We’re heading out.” “Okay, I’m on my way.” Without even changing his clothes, he heads to his car. “What’s the situation?” he asks. Captain Faraz reports that they’re checking – a girl called in the tip. But when Haider asks where she is, Faraz can’t say. Then headquarters calls, and Faraz’s broken replies – “But sir… how… okay, I’m coming” – make Haider realise something has gone badly wrong. A man from the bomb disposal team approaches: “The bomb is fake, sir. Maybe we’ve been trapped.”
At headquarters, Colonel Hammad is deeply worried. The thing they feared has happened. “Who had the file?” he asks. Captain Faraz did – it was so secret that no one else knew about it. Now that file has fallen into enemy hands; it was stolen from Faraz on the way. Faraz, white-faced, explains that he was taking the file to headquarters when he heard about the bomb on Mall Road and went there instead. “Who told you to go there?” Haider demands, furious at such carelessness. “General Arsalan told me to get there,” Faraz stammers.
جعلی بم، چوری شدہ فائل، اور صرف پانچ منٹ۔
Colonel Hammad is startled – something is wrong. He calls General Arsalan, but the phone is switched off. Haider immediately takes charge: “Trace General Arsalan’s phone right now. You have only five minutes.” He orders all of Faraz’s phone data to be checked, and in the middle of everything, they realise they’ve forgotten all about the girl who first called them.
Hayat Khan builds a tense, fast-paced army story full of betrayal and suspense, with romance waiting behind the title’s sweet Pashto words.
