Wo Meri Mohabbat Hai (Urdu: وہ میری محبت ہے) by Anabiya Khan is a short Urdu cousin romance about Ushaal, the only sister of four brothers. A proposal arrives from her khala’s son Afaq, who, rumour says, likes someone else.

The novel opens with a teaser: “Today, after four whole years, she finally came back – the one who used to say she’d never come… Ushaal, you came after all.” Then the story goes back to show how it began.

Ushaal has four brothers and lives in a home where she never lacks anything. One day her mother, Mahreen, mentions that Ushaal’s khala visited today. “What did she want?” Ushaal asks. Her mother smiles: her sister has come to ask for Ushaal’s hand for her son. “What?” Ushaal is stunned. “Mama, you know very well that her son likes someone else.” Mahreen insists it’s not true – her sister doesn’t want that girl, and those are only rumours; Afaq doesn’t like anyone. “Mama, please don’t do this to me,” Ushaal pleads.

Just then her father, Javed, comes home and asks what mother and daughter are discussing. Mahreen tells him that Nasreen came today with Afaq’s proposal for their daughter. Javed thinks it’s a good match – it’s Khala’s home, after all – and asks Ushaal if she’s happy. “Baba, what can I say? You’re my parents, you know best,” she replies. Javed is touched and proud: may Allah give every family a daughter like her. He asks Mahreen to call Afaq so he can speak to him.

When Afaq arrives, he greets his uncle and aunt warmly, explaining that his father’s friend had an accident so his parents had to go; he came alone. Javed then tells him why he has called him: “Your Ammi came with your proposal today – do you know about it?” “What proposal, Uncle?” Afaq asks, completely surprised.

Anabiya Khan keeps the story simple and family-centred, and the title – “she is my love” – hints at how Afaq’s feelings will finally come out.
