Mohobat nhi ishq hai by NNM

About this novelette

Mohobat Nhi Ishq Hai (Urdu: محبت نہیں عشق ہے) by NNM is a short Urdu cousin romance about Mahrosh and Hadeed, who barely get along. A small accident shows her a different side of him, and the title means this isn’t just love, it’s ishq.

It opens on a lawn. Mahrosh, the fair, gentle girl of the house in a long red frock, is walking barefoot on the wet grass when a piece of broken glass cuts her foot. She sits down holding it, her eyes red with pain. Just then a car pulls into the porch and Hadeed steps out. He notices her at once and asks what happened, but Mahrosh, startled, can’t say a word. She has always tried to answer him back, yet whenever he’s in front of her she falls silent. Usually they behave like enemies.

جن سے ہمیشہ جھگڑا رہا، اسی کی فکر نے حیران کر دیا۔

The writer then introduces the family. Rahim sahib and his wife Hameeda have sons whose children all grew up together. Mahrosh lost her mother, and Hadeed finished his studies and joined the family business. The girls of the family aren’t allowed to work, so Mahrosh stays at home. Rahim sahib built a big villa in Islamabad so the whole family could live together, and even after him the brothers’ unity never broke. Back on the lawn, Hadeed sees the blood, lifts Mahrosh in his arms, puts her in the car and drives her to the hospital himself. Mahrosh is amazed at this sudden kindness from the cousin she thought didn’t care at all.

NNM keeps it short and sweet, and the opening sets up a classic cousin romance full of quarrels, hidden feelings and family warmth.
