Har Martaba Tu Chahiay By Ana Ilyas

About this novel

Har Martaba Tu Chahiay (Urdu: ہر مرتبہ تو چاہیے) by Ana Ilyas is a romantic suspense Urdu novel about a fearless girl and a powerful politician. Firaal is set on exposing him, and her family locks her up to keep her safe, so the story opens with her pacing her room in fury, banging on a door that won’t open.

“Mama, please darwaza kholen!” she shouts until her throat hurts, but nobody answers. She checks the windows and finds them shut tight behind the grille. She has been locked in for a whole day. Her meals come through a small window onto the corridor, and she’s so angry she hasn’t touched breakfast. Still, she refuses to back down: they can build the walls as high as they like and post as many guards as they want, she says, but she is not one to retreat.

ماں کا ڈر اور بیٹی کا جنون — دونوں اپنی جگہ سچے۔

The reason soon becomes clear. For some time her mother Saiqa, Shiraz and the other elders of the house have tried with love to keep Firaal away from her work, but her passion only keeps growing. Now she has found evidence of the dirty dealings of a very big politician and means to expose him. The night before, her younger sister Nihal overheard her threatening the man over the phone and told their mother at once. Saiqa won’t open the door until Firaal writes her resignation. A mother knows her child’s pain best, she pleads; these people are so dangerous that even agencies couldn’t control them, and she can’t hand her daughter over to such a cruel world.

Firaal answers just as fiercely. This man has kidnapped children and sold their organs, destroying who knows how many homes. Are other people’s children worth less than her? And who’s to say his next target won’t be one of their own?

The opening sets up a gripping mix of family love, courage and danger. Ana Ilyas shows both sides fairly: a mother’s fear and a daughter’s conscience. The title promises a love story built on the same strength of will.
